Basel, Switzerland – September 2026 – SanaClis brought together senior leaders from across the pharmaceutical, biotech and clinical research community in Basel for the latest SanaClis Vision Exchange – Switzerland Chapter, creating a forum for open discussion around some of the challenges shaping clinical development today.
Hosted in Basel, one of Europe’s leading life sciences hubs, the event was designed to move away from traditional presentations and create space for genuine conversation, debate and the exchange of practical experience between industry leaders.
Throughout the day, discussions explored a wide range of topics affecting the planning and delivery of clinical programmes, including better decision-making, increasing protocol complexity, quality and operational agility, cross-functional collaboration, the evolving role of artificial intelligence, CRO partnerships and the connection between clinical operations and clinical supply.
A recurring theme was the importance of bringing different functions and perspectives together earlier in the clinical development process. As studies become increasingly complex, effective execution depends not only on strong individual functions, but on how well clinical development, operations, quality, data, statistics, safety, supply and external partners work together.
The discussions also explored how organisations can balance scientific ambition with operational feasibility, where greater agility can be introduced without compromising quality and how technology and AI may support teams as clinical research continues to evolve.
Open Discussion, Different Perspectives
Rather than following a traditional conference format, the Vision Exchange was built around interactive panel discussions and participation from everyone in the room.
The programme featured senior industry leaders with speakers including:
- Elvira Klissourska, VP, Global Head Clinical Operations, Clinical Development, Safety and PV, Fresenius Kabi
- Matthieu Ruffin, VP, Head Study Leadership, Novartis
- Cornelis Winnips, Global Program Clinical Head, Novartis
- Lars Nieba, CEO, Engimmune Therapeutics
- Kelvin Stott, Founder & CEO, Amporin Pharmaceuticals
- Alphonse Mordiva, Sr. Director, Head R&D Quality Europe, Daiichi Sankyo
Their experience and perspectives helped create an open environment where participants could challenge ideas, share lessons from their own organisations and explore how the industry can work differently.
For SanaClis, this exchange of perspectives reflects the thinking behind the Vision Exchange concept: creating smaller, focused forums where senior professionals can move beyond prepared presentations and have meaningful conversations about the realities of clinical development.
Continuing the Conversation Beyond the Room
The exchange continued beyond the formal programme, with attendees joining an evening cruise on the Rhine followed by dinner at Les Trois Rois, providing further opportunity for discussion and networking in a more informal setting.
